Happy New Year!

2011 was a busy and productive year in the 45th Ward. Together we established a ward office open over 50 hours a week and fielded over 1,500 service requests, closing 82% of them. We hosted several public meetings on zoning changes and held our ward’s first Enterprise Fair. And we have established an Arts Alive Initiative, beautifying 13 vacant storefronts, installing five public murals and hosting more than 20 events.

Now, building upon those successes, I am running for Democratic Ward Committeeman, an unpaid position responsible for directing activities of the party in the ward. I want to bring the same reform and transparency that I’m fighting for in City Council to the Democratic Party in Cook County. We want to build a Democratic organization focusing on inclusion and participation to finally put to rest the “not so good old days” of the political machine.

The election is March 20th, so the campaign begins now.

Just as the aldermanic campaign last year, this effort will require the assistance of many dedicated volunteers to spread the message that, going forward, we plan to welcome everyone into a new kind of Democratic Party.

We recently opened our campaign office at 4962 N. Milwaukee Avenue. Please drop by or call 773/815-0145 if you can spare some time. Or better yet, complete and submit the volunteer card online.

Thanks again for your past support. I look forward to continuing to make you proud.

Sincerely,

The Chicago Board of Elections offers early voting for the March 20 primary from February 27 through March 15. Registered voters may vote at any of the 51 voting locations across the city, but they must present a government-issued photo ID to do so.

While polling places are scattered throughout the city, here are a few early voting locations 45th Ward residents may find more convenient. Each of the following locations is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday from February 27 through March 15.

Absentee voting

If you would like to request an absentee ballot, download this form and return it to the Chicago Board of Elections by March 15. However, the board warns voters to request a ballot well ahead of this deadline and to use express mail to minimize mailing delays.
