Chicago Public Schools (CPS) is chronically underfunded, short an incredible $1 billion this year. Removing CPS from the abusive TIF system is a start, giving schools a fighting chance with adequate funding.

Still, half of our high schoolers drop out before graduation. We need to foster the development of truly great public schools in the 45th Ward. As alderman, John Arena will be an important resource for 45th Ward local school councils (LSCs). He also plans to launch targeted community engagement programs tailored to the specific needs of schools. These programs can help get parents and students more involved in education and help schools develop programs uniquely suited to the communities they serve.
